My parents kept
telling me that their computer was too slow. It was a Pentium 4
1.4GHz, with 256MB of RIMM memory. It was so ancient that the P4 was
one of those old Socket 423 ones. I was happy to oblige, since it
would let me mod another case.
This system
used to be my daily use "Liquid Li". I removed the water cooling
system and installed a Zalman CNPS-7000A-Cu heatsink fan. I removed most of my things,
such as the DVD-RW and the Dragon fan theme. I swapped the UV lights
out for blue ones, and put in new blue LED fans. I removed my two
120GB RAID-0 hard drives and mounted my parents' 40GB drive after a fresh
install of Windows XP.
Since I had an
atomic fan grill left, I got a couple more and completed the motif.
I installed a Vantec fan controller to regulate the fans. I gently
overclocked the CPU to 2.6GHz (didn't want to go crazy on their PC,
though I'm sure with a little more time I would have been able to
get closer to 3GHz). My parents were really happy with the end
result. |
